The brand Tour Edge was founded 30 years ago by David Glod with the vision to develop and sell well-performing golf clubs at significantly cheaper prices. The current line of Tour Edge is “Hot Launch” and fulfils exactly what David Glod aimed for – good performance, low prices. HIO Fitting customises these clubs for you at low cost: irons under 100€, putter, hybrids and woods at around 150€ and drivers between 200-250€.

Tour Edge extended its product portfolio through the addition of Exotics in the early 2000s. Exotics golf clubs offer a more exclusive alternative compared to the less expensive Tour Edge line line. The premium brand’s woods, irons and hybrids are consistently represented in GolfDigest’s HotList. They excel especially in the performance ranking, leaving their competitors behind in ball speed and usability. Price ranges are as follows: irons (from 125€), hybrids (from 200€), woods (from 300€) and drivers (400€). Come to our studio and explore the performance benefit for yourself. You will be astounded by the quick ball speed and game improving aspects that we can help you realise with Exotics golf clubs.

Exotics woods

Exotics woods – never disappoint and perform at the highest level

The Exotics brand has been with us since our inception and has never failed to impress. From the outset, the Exotics line convinced not only HIO Fitting but also our customers. The golf clubs gained prominence through recurring top marks (gold and silver awards) in the renownedGolfDigestmagazine. By now their golf clubs have belonged to GolfDigest’s best performers for over a decade.

Drivers, woods (fairways) and hybrids embody the perfect balance between performance and usability that Exotics is famously known for. While slim blade irons can pose an enormous challenge for beginners, Exotics products are both suitable and performant for both all types of players. Tour players can also choose to select the more slender and slightly weight-adjusted (COG) tour editions for less back spin and preventive against hooks.

The woods all have the characteristic lush, slightly metallic sound at impact and thereby provide an accurate and direct feedback. Drivers and woods produce only little back spin to maximise roll.

The woods are available in the following versions:

The new Driver

RH | 7.5°-12.5° | from 450€

The EXS Driver by Exotics proved it is worthy for our product portfolio through its perfect mix of distance and control. A very thin club face made from tear-proof Beta Titanium seamlessly transfers all your club head speed to the ball. For an adjustable ball flight, Exotics has included a carbon crown that reduces the weight and allows a redistribution to the sole. The newly-developed curvature of the club face helps to compensate for off-center hits better than ever before, leading to more fairway hits. The price performance ratio for this club head is phenomenal.

The new Fairway Wood

RH | 13°, 15°, 17°, 18°, 21° | from 320€

With its Fairway woods Exotics built its reputation in the golf market. The new fairway once again show their prowess for this golf club. It is extremely easy to handle and performs exceptionally well compared its peers. Carbon components help reduce the overall weight and instead allow the weight to be variably distributed along the club head. This can help you counteract hooks and slices or help you achieve a certain ball flight. The center of gravity has been moved to the front causing less backspin and more roll.

The new Hybrid

RH | 17°, 19°, 22°, 25°, 28° | from 240€

Why should you struggle with a 4 or 5 iron if it could be a lot easier? The hybrids from Exotics are the perfect replacement since they are very performant from the semi-rough as well as the fairway. The characteristically high ball flight allows direct approaches to the green regardless of any obstacles placed to protect it. The club face delivers great feedback and transfers high speeds onto the ball through an exceptional steel composition. The EXS Hybrids are perfect for transport shots and a saviour in tough lies making them ideal for all types of golfers.

The new Irons

RH | 4-PW, AW | from 140€/Iron

The new Exotics Irons combine different materials for maximum distance. The forged club face delivers great feel complemented by the cavity back. A 19g Tungsten weight at the toe of the club face reduces torsion at off-center hits thereby guaranteeing straighter shots. Players who hit the ball too high and thereby lose distance will greatly benefit from these new irons.

Technology in Exotics woods

The FSI (Full Speed Impact) club head was aerodynamically optimised in the wind tunnel to help every golfer maximise club head speed and consistently accelerate in the down swing. The club face is made of the thin and compact „TSP9170 beta Titanium“ for very high ball speed and control at impact. Additionally, the innovative slip stream sole reduces ground friction at impact and subsequently allows for efficient power transfer to the ball.

For both the drivers and woods the club face has a hexagonal arrangement for variating thickness – the so called Variable Face Thickness Technology. Also here, a thicker club face in the center and thinner around the outside means more distance even with off-center hits The benefit of this is that the smash factor of 1,51 as regulated by the USGA can be achieved by both sweet spot and off-center hits. For you as a golfer this means long distance and straight hits even without a perfect shot.

Exotics Irons

In 2016, Exotics released three series of irons to serve the demands of all types of golfers. The CBX Blade and Cavity have a pure and athletic design with soft feedback at impact facilitated by S25c Carbon Steel. On the other hand, the Iron-Wood offers more comfort with its wide sole. The cast iron models are available with a variety of sole widths and club faces.

EXi and EXd Irons

EXi Irons

The Exotics irons’ EX lines represent classical game improvement irons. While the very forgiving EXd irons are designed for high handicaps (20-54), the more slender EXi irons are athletic and subsequently made for low to mid handicaps (0-25). What we appreciate at HIO Fitting is the ability to combine both sets. This enables us to recommend a 18-handicapper to have short irons (#7, #8, #9 and PW) from the EXi line and longer irons from the EXd line.

Both EX irons are made from 431-stainless steel for a very soft feel at impact. The high quality of steel used by Exotics becomes apparent when customising the golf clubs. When adjusting loft and lie we are continuously impressed by the soft and receptive character of the steel of the cast irons. Like in its woods, Exotics applies the Variable Face Thickness Technology to its irons. Also here, a thicker club face in the center and thinner around the outside means more distance even with off-center hits For you as a golfer this means long distance and straight hits even without a perfect shot

CBX Iron Woods

CBX Iron Woods

The cavity back design allows precise weight distribution and improvement of forgiveness. The rounded sole, similar to that of a hybrid, coupled with heavy and slanted leading edge smoothly glide through all types of grass. The L-Cup-Face-Technology generates unparalleled power and maximum distance.

Exotics CBX forged

The new flagship iron by Exotics This new iron combines technologies from all previous cast iron models into a premium forged iron made of carbon steel. The slim sole and design of the iron is best suited for handicaps between 0-20. This masterpiece of an iron boasts sensational feedback and has a special place in our assortment. While Exotics is known for its drivers and woods, this CBX Forged iron proved it belongs into our product portfolio in a series of tests. Exotics has managed to enter the highest level of iron production.

XJ1 Vision Study

a) The limited edition clubs are nearly completely made up of this innovative, ultra light material known as ”9-1-1-Titanium” or simply „Supermetal“. It is 10% lighter than the existing 6A4v Titanium used in comparable drivers

b) The top, or crown, is made of extremely light and durable Kevlar carbon, which saves even more weight and causes a shift of weight to the bottom of the club head. The new weight distribution is perfect for a good launch angle and additional speed.

c) The club face is made of SP700 beta Titanium, which is particularly robust and allows Exotics to make it extremely thin. This in combination with the applied laser welding provides sensational feedback. Most noticeably, the center of the club face is thicker in the middle and thinner on the outside. The benefit of this is that the smash factor of 1,51 as regulated by the USGA can be achieved by both sweet spot and off-center hits. For you as a golfer this means long distance and straight hits even without a perfect shot

d) The saved weight resulting from the new Supermetal and the Kevlar carbon crown is redistributed usefully. Small tungsten screws and plates are positioned at the sole of the driver. The even weight distribution creates more stability and a higher MOI for great results even with off-center hits. A unique feature is the tungsten screw close to the shaft that helps rotate the club face and thereby automatically straightens out the ball flight

Versions

Exotics does not offer an adaptive system to guarantee ideal stability and weight distribution. The driver is offered in the different lofts 9°, 10.5° and 12°. The fairway woods range from #3 to #7, i.e. lofts as follows: 15°, 17°, 19° and 21°.

Test

n our very own tests we found that a 12 handicapper averaged 4 mph higher ball speed (equivalent of +10 meters carry distance) compared to a standard driver. Notably, the off – center hits showed significantly higher speeds attributable to the Variable Face Thickness Technology. It was interesting to see tha t the tests showed only a 2 mph ball speed increase (equivalent of +6 meters carry distance) for a +2 handicapper. The reason for this being more sweet spot hits overall so that the test candidate could not take advantage of the significant forgiving qualities of this driver. The results of our own tests show that Exotics keeps its promise and that this driver is perfectly suited for the average player who can take advantage of the new premium technology.

Our bottom line

This driver is the perfect long – term golf investment (5 – 10 years) due to its innovative and durable technology that will not be outdated anytime soon. It is ideal for the average golfer that can benefit from the boosted ball speed that it generates. This quality comes at a cost, which must be considered. Alternatively, we offer other drivers with similar performance, it must however be noted that these have shorter lifespan

Price

Innovation comes with a price tag. Large research and development efforts paired with exceptional materials result in limited ed ition prices – the driver (from 700€) and the woods (from 450€) are situated comfortably at the top of the price segmen The Driver is available from 9°-12° and the fairway woods as #3, #4, #5, #7.
